Motability, the Charity, has confirmed that it is now accepting charitable grant applications from all beneficiaries after a phased reopening of the programme.
A national charity founded in 1977, Motability, the Charity, oversees the Motability Scheme, a lease scheme providing disabled people with mobility solutions which is delivered by Motability Operations.
According to the charity, its goal is to help as many disabled people as possible to become mobile and it offers a number of grants to help individuals who may need extra support or may not meet the Scheme’s eligibility criteria.
The outbreak of the coronavirus and subsequent lockdown, however, caused disruption to the charity’s grants programme as it stopped accepting new grant applications.
As the peak of the pandemic passed, the charity’s grants team confirmed it would take a phased approach to restarting the programme, staggering the beneficences that could apply.
The first phase saw the charity accept applications from beneficiaries who did not currently have a vehicle on the Motability Scheme, as well as applications for its Driving Lessons, Access to Work and Additional Transitional Support grant programmes.
The second phase, which recommenced yesterday, saw the grants team expand the programme to accept grant applications from beneficiaries who were currently on the Scheme and had a Complex Driving Solution or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.
